Currently: Founding Director of E3G, Visiting Professor at Imperial and University Colleges London and Environmental Policy Adviser to Rio Tinto plc. Works for Rio Tinto and for BP to explore how government, business and civil society must work together to solve environmental problems.
BA Hons Philosophy, Liverpool, 1969. Formerly: workshop leader at The Black-E. Friends of the Earth since 1970, became its Director, then Director of the Green Alliance. Special Adviser to Michael Heseltine and successors for 6 years in government. Appointed to the UN Environment Programme's Global 500 Roll of Honour in 1993; made a CBE for services to the environment in 1997. Co-author of The Green Capitalists (1987), Green Pages (1998), and Ethics, Environment and the Company (1990).
