The Lantern Company will be in the Black-E, preparing new lanterns for its Autumn parade, their festival of lights. In the two days they are with us, the group will deliver workshops in lantern making for children. The workshop begins at 10am and will finish at 4pm.
The company parades lanterns they have created with various groups from across the city each year, in readiness for their festive procession around Sefton Park for Halloween. This year the parade will be on Saturday 1st November, starting by the obelisk monument at 6.30pm.
The company makes lanterns of all shapes and sizes. They make lanterns that float and fly, are processional or static, and use all types of materials: paper, fabric, fibre glass, plastics and anything else that they can find that enhances the glow of the light from within the lanterns. Each lantern can take anything from 15 minutes to 5 weeks to complete, particularly for the more complicated and intricate creations.
