Performance Saturday 22 March
A new circus show devised and collectively made by Square Peg based on Coleridge’s epic poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. With thrilling acrobatics, song and story, Square Peg combine circus with theatre and dance – using group acrobatics and human towers, Chinese poles, silks, and flips and tricks to tell this beautiful haunting tale.
Square Peg developed Rime as associate artists at the Roundhouse and Jacksons Lane, it is co-commissioned by the National Theatre and produced by Cirquit Productions, with generous support from Arts Council England, Ideas Tap through the Ideas Fund Edinburgh, Hangar Arts Trust, Aircraft Circus, University of East Anglia, Kilnco and Throughline.
“Thoroughly bold and sophisticated… Visually-striking family entertainment!"
The Herald
"Square Peg have demonstrated considerable ambition and skill in tackling narratives which is a quality often lacking in contemporary circus, I hope they continue down their brave and innovative road."
Leila Jones - Circus Producer, the Roundhouse
" Astonishing physicality, tilting bodies transporting us to rough seas... Gasp-inducingly spectacular. Square Peg’s striking, carefully assembled aesthetic hits perceptively on the ghostly quality of Coleridge's writing"
IdeasTap IdeasMag
" Numerous impressive moments, rich in atmosphere, skill and diversity with remarkable strength, dexterity and, let’s face it... bravery"
